We've been trying to source a Homi (Korean hand hoe) since we first came across them when researching Hori Hori's.

One arrived with us early this year and after testing it with preparing the veg patch this spring we can see that it's going to be new favourite.

It's a completely different tool to a Hori Hori, but the two do work well alongside each other.

The blade on the Homi is triangular and works almost like a plough blade.  This means it's excellent for forming long planting furrows.  The small pointed tip does make it possible to use it for more precise work as well.  We work in clay soil so we often get a hard "crust" forming on the veg patch and borders.  The Homi broke through this surface without any issues and easily broke up the top layer of soil.

These Homi's are hand forged in Yeongiu province of Korea by Seok Nohki.  They are extremely robust, and although skilfully made, they do have a very rustic, agricultural finish to them.  The wooden handles are securely attached via a full tang construction.  They will rust if left in damp conditions and I'd recommend a regular coating of Camellia Oil.

The Homi is 30cm in overall length and the blade itself is 15cm.
