After years of trying we have now been excepted as one of the handful of UK stockists of Gransfors Bruk.  Stock should be arriving towards the end of September 2024 ... but we were keen to get the information up on the website as soon as everything was confirmed.

The Outdoor Axe is a hybrid design, and that makes it really interesting.  We often get asked "What type of axe do I need?"  The answer to that question depends on what you need to achieve with it.  Most of our customers are using an axe around the garden and then also for preparing firewood.  So our answer has always been you need two axes - a small hatchet for garden use and kindling - and then a splitting maul for processing logs.

Not everyone's usage can justify purchasing two axes, and this is where we think the Outdoor Axe might be the solution - as it blends a hatchet with the ability to split small logs.

The head weighs only 1lb, but has more of a wedge shape to it than the Wildlife Hatchet.  The 14.5inch hickory handle allows it to be swung with force when necessary, but you can also choke the handle for delicate work.  It's fitted with a metal overstrike collar, which you only usually see on Gransfors dedicated splitting axes.  They are also supplied with a leather sheath.

Is it as good an all round hatchet as the Wildlife?  Probably not.  Will it split logs as well as a splitting maul? Definitely not (not of any size anyway).  But it is capable of doing both, and that might just make it the perfect axe for somebody who just wants to invest in one single tool.

(This axe was developed by Lars Falt, the famous Swedish army survival trainer.  He wanted to design a single axe that could be carried in a wilderness survival situation.  We think its equally useful in the garden/workshop as it is in the Scandinavan wilds.)

Gransfors Bruk have been making axes in Sweden for over 100 years.  All their axes are still made in their factory in the town of Gransfors.  Each head is marked with the initials of the blacksmith who forged them and they are designed to last a lifetime.  For us they are the best quality mass produced axes available on the market.
