Think of a batoning hatchet as an alternative tool to an axe for preparing firewood. It is similar in scale to the Fedeca Bushcraft knife but it doesn't have a sharpened tip. This is a tool designed to split small logs into kindling or for shaving wood.
The blade is made from silicone manganese steel and is 6mm thick. This means its strong enough to be struck with a wooden mallet or log, in order to split larger logs. The blade is around 10cm long and the hatchet has an overall length of 24.5cm. It weighs around 300grams.
We are stocking two handle options;
Mulitcolour - this is a colour wooden laminate (similar to recycled skateboards.)
Brown Naguri - this is a traditional Japanese wooden finish.
The blade does have a high carbon content so will rust if stored damp. I would advise using a product like Axe Wax when storing and not in use. The handle can be treated with Wood Butter.
