Both mattock style hand hoes and forked hand hoes are massively useful tools around the garden. For general maintenance and weeding of borders we've found them to be all that we really need. The Japanese hand hoes that we've been using are very functional in their design and manufacture. They are massively strong and durable but the finish of the welding etc is certainly agricultural.
This double sided hand hoe from Sneeboer is the polar opposite. Made from stainless steel it is truly a thing of beauty. The craftsmanship and attention to detail in forming the hoe and fork ends is outstanding. It also works amazingly well, blending a slightly shorter handle length than we are used to (22cm) with a very usable weight of 300 grams.
