Oil from the seeds of Camellia oleifera (same family as Camellia and tea) is the traditional Japanese choice for protecting tools from rust: use it when cleaning, and as a regular protective coating. Leaves a lovely deep, non-oily finish, and it's odourless and tasteless (handy for kitchen knives, but don't try drinking it.)

The Niwaki Camellia Oil is made from cold pressed Camellia seeds blended with white mineral oil. It comes in a 100ml bottle, which will last a very long time as you only need a small amount each time you use it.

You can buy Niwaki Camellia oil individually, or as part of one of our Maintenance Kits for secateurs or penknives.

You can also buy a bottle of Camellia Oil and an OIl Dispenser bottle.  You don't need the dispenser bottle but it is a simpler and cleaner way of apply the oil.

If you want to learn more about how to use Camellia Oil - to easily clean, sharpen and repair garden secateurs - using Niwaki Crean mate, Niwaki sharpening stones and Camellia oil - you can either watch our Instagram video (just click on the box) or you read our Tinker and Fix 'how to' maintenance mindset blog.

Again - please note that Niwaki Camellia Oil is not for human consumption.

As I was buying the sharpening stone and the crean mate I thought I might as well get this Camellia oil and keep all three together in a box. It's a very fine oil and very suitable for the task of keeping gardening tools in good condition.
