I have to admit that I was a little concerned when Carhartt let me know they were changing their core bib overalls – the R01’s and R06’s. In fact the R06 Sandstone bib overalls have been dropped completely.
These are the new R01’s – now Carhartt’s main bib overall. They are still made from 12oz Duck canvas but they have updated the fabric and its now a lot softer as standard. So much so that they decided that the heavily softened Sandstone bib overall isn’t needed in the range anymore.
So what else is new;
- They’ve increased the double fabric on the front of the leg, which used to just be on the knees, to go all the way up to the waist in a “chap yoke.” This offers more protection and resistance to wear.
- The quality of the buttons and brace buckles is much heavier.
- The waist side panels now have a stretch panel to improve fit.
- The layout of the chest pockets has been updated to include a zipped pocket.
- The bottom of the legs now have what they are calling a 360 “kick panel.” Effectively they’ve double the fabric around the leg bottom to improve wear.
I've tried a pair on and the fits still great .... my only concern now is justifying having a pair of these as well as my original ones.
Sizing has been updated on these new bibs from the old R01 which you had to size up. I would now recommend that you buy your normal waist size if you plan to wear them on their own, or up one size if you normally wear them over a pair of jeans.
