Green Woodworking Tool Kit

On the run up to Christmas last year we had multiple requests for a good set of carving tools for somebody just starting out with working green wood.  We looked at the offering from a couple of entry level brands and were quiet disappointed with what we found.

Somebody just starting out with wood carving doesn't really want to have to spend hours getting their new tools sharp, when they should be ready to go out of the box.

So for this kit we've reverted back to Gransfors Bruk and Mora Knives.  Trusted quality that we can rely on to give years of enjoyable use.  

We're not expert carvers by any definition, but I enjoy working with green wood for various projects - mainly around the garden.

This kit comprises of the Gransfors Bruk Wildlife Hatchet, the Mora 120 carving knife and a Mora 162 croof knife.

Gransfors Bruk Wildlife Hatchet

• This isn't a specific carving axe, it's a more general use hatchet that can be used for jobs around the garden, making kindling, as well as roughing out blanks.
• Hand made in Sweden.  
• The head weighs 1.3lbs and is hung on a 14inch hickory handle.
• To me this is more versatile axe for somebody just starting out with wood carving.  It also would sit nicely alongside a carving axe it that was added to the collection at a later point.

Mora 120 carving knife.

• This is the classic Scandinavian Sloyd design of carving knife.
• Made from carbon steel in Sweden.
• Sharp from new - holds an edge well and straightforward to sharpen when necessary with use.
• The oversized handle makes it comfortable to use whilst carving.
• Supplied in a basic plastic sheath.

Mora 162 crook knife

• This is a curved, double-edged blade.
• Designed to make a variety of rounded cuts, as well bowling out spoons etc.
• Has the same oversized handle design as the straight knife.
• It isn't supplied with any form of blade cover/sheath.

This kit is designed to form a high quality starting point, that can be added to overtime, if green wood carving is something that you get into. 

We might offer an upgraded version of this kit that will feature custom leather blade covers for the Mora 120 and 162, and a Toyo Y-350 tool box to store them in.  If these are of interest just let us know.
