One of the great consequences of attending various shows/events across the country is discovering new tools.  A conversation at a recent garden event in the Cotswolds led us to these trowels made by Shed 51.

The customer was raving about her favourite trowel which she'd has for a number of years.  She then disappeared off to fetch it - that was how excited she was to show me.  I'm really glad she did as I think they are a great concept.

Still made in the Cotswold, they were originally sold as "Uncle Peter's Trowel" at various markets in the area.  Apparently they developed quiet the cult following in the area.  The original maker worked in the aerospace industry and the design really reflects that.  They are now made by another retired aviation specialist under the Shed 51 name.

The handle is copper and the digging blade from stainless steel.  Their clever design means no rivets or glue are needed in their assembly.  Extremely light weight and durable.  This standard length version weighs just 140grams, but will hold up to digging duties well.

With an overall length of 26cm -  the blade is 14cm long and 4 cm wide with a a good curve to it.  The copper handle is 12cm long.

It's fitted with a leather loop for hanging.

Also available with a longer handle here or as a smaller pocket version here.
