When looking to replace the not so old, but badly deteriorating, plastic 5L fuel cans we use for the various petrol garden tools it gave me a reason to research petrol cans ... yes, I'm a little dull.

Everything kept leading to metal "Jerry" cans being the best option.  I've got a 20 litre Jerry can that I use to keep old engine oil in from servicing our cars.  It's great but I curse every time I have to pour the contents out at the recycling centre.  The integrated lid gets in the way and the pouring spouts I've had for it haven't been great.

I took a look at Waivan - the original German manufacturer of fuel cans, and moved their production to Lativa after WW2 - and I was really happy to find was an alternative to the NATO filler caps.

I was drawn to this design of Jerry can because it had a screw cap - and then when I realised the cap was magnetic and designed to hold on to the side of the can when open I was sold.  I've been testing one out of the summer and have been really impressed.

The screw cap seals well and is easy to open and close.

The magnet idea works and I've not lost the cap all summer.

The pouring spout screws on easily and has never leaked due to the rubber O ring seal.

It also features an air vent running through the spout which means it pours easily and in a very controlled manner.  Great when filling the small petrol tank on a lawn mower.

Overall dimensions are;  32cm high, 10cm deep and 22cm wide.

The spout is 30 cm long and flexible in design.  The spout will sit across the top of the can with the magnet loosely holding it as shown in the images.  As of May 2023 I've added a loop of leather around the handle to further secure the spout if being transported.  It's attached with two snaps so can be removed.  Designed to be left on the handle and then the spout slid through.

Available in either Red* or Olive(*unfortunately unlikely to have stock of Red until late July)  - both have red tipped spouts.

Safe with E10 petrol
