Edd's current favourites in the workshop...

To be honest, it's difficult to find more tools and kit for the garage and workshop that are of the highest quality, that work well and that we recommend. Of course we've got the great King Dick Spanners, and the Elementary Screwdrivers, but we're always on the look out to add in some new tools.

We prefer tools that function brilliantly, look great and will hopefully last a lifetime. And clothing or kit that fits well, doesn't impede the job, but protects us from getting messy or making a mess of our hands or bodies!

The Daytona Mechanics gloves are Edd's new favourites. They are made by Watson Gloves from Canada, the only place we source gloves from due to their quality.  What makes these great in the workshop is the Titan fibre used on the palms.  This is an abrasion resistant microfibre and they hold up well (even better than the leather palms of the Flextime gloves which we also stock).  But the great durability and protection isn't at the cost of feel and fit - the spandex back material means you get a great fit and the velco cuff keeps them secure.

The Bahco Adjustable Spanner is a great tool - of course using the specific size spanner is always a better choice, but adjustable spanners are incredibly useful to have to hand. We have them in our car tool kits, as it saves you from having to carry a full set of spanners (in the case of the Land Rover we'd need to carry both metric and imperial). Quality is always important when it comes to tools, but especially so with an adjustable spanner.  When they are bad, they are really bad.  Loose jaws that don't hold position are worse than useless.  And soft jaw material is just waiting to round the nut that you are trying to sort out. In our opinion the Swedish company Bahco (now owned by Snapon) make some of the best quality adjustable spanners.  They should do really,  as they invented them over 130 years ago.  And to celebrate this 130th milestone they made an 8" adjustable spanner (which is made in Spain).   It has everything you need from an adjustable spanner -  a wide jaw which means it can open up to 40mm, plus it has a phosphate finish that’s extremely durable and provides a rust resistant finish.

So whilst there may only be two 'new' recommendations, both are definitely a good investment for yourself (or as a gift for the person in your life who likes to Tinker and Fix in the garage or workshop).
