We’ve found that bib overalls can be a bit Marmite. There doesn’t seem to be much middle ground between those that wear them and those that wouldn’t even try a pair on.
I’m firmly in the “love” camp and for me Carhartt make the best fitting and functional ones on the market.
Why do I rate wearing bib overalls;
fit – I’m not constantly having to pull my trousers up in the workshop... and I don’t have to wear a belt.
pockets – lots of them and well placed. Saves a lot of time searching around worktops for where I left them.
protection – from the odd stray grinding spark and the cold.
The R01’s are made from Carhartts signature 12oz Duck canvas material. It’s softer when new than they used to be, but still needs a couple of wears to “break in” the fabric. This fabric is double layer on the front of the leg, from just below the knees to the waist.
The pocket layout works for various tools and theres a zipped pocket on the chest for mobile phones etc.
The 360 “kick panel” around the bottom of the legs means they are extra durable in this area.
Sizing – go with your normal jeans waist size if you plan to wear them on their own. So if you’re 34” waist jean then order that size in these bib overalls. If you plan to wear them with a thermal layer underneath then I would recommend going up a size. Leg length on these is standard at 32”. (we can special order 30” and 34” leg lengths, but stock availability on these can be difficult so please get in contact and we can check for you.)
