Tinker and Fix head to the new RHS show

We’re pleased to be heading up north to take part in the first RHS Urban Show.  It’s a new plant show that focuses on urban gardening and houseplants taking place at the end of the month (18 – 21 April 2024).

It’s a bit different from the traditional RHS shows as it’s indoors, in the vast industrial space of a former railway – the ‘The Mayfield Depot Venue’ – which is located in the heart of Manchester.  It’s easy to get to, if you are planning to come along – as its right next to the Manchester Piccadilly Train Station.

The event is focusing on urban and city gardeners, as well as the increasing connection between horticulture, wellbeing and sustainable living. It’s set up to be a great show, with loads going on including interactive exhibits and awe-inspiring installations, innovative gardening and design inspiration for urban spaces, as well as practical advice and horticultural inspiration.

And – we’ll be there! We’ll be bringing a selection of our tools and kit up to Manchester…

• Everything you need to cut in your garden from Niwaki - including secateurs, snips, and scissors. Recognising it’s an urban show, we’ll probably not be bringing our larger Niwaki Loppers and Shears  - but remember, if you are visiting and want something bringing – just let us know and we’ll bring it for you to look at.
• Garden tools from Sneeboer – again, we’ll be bringing along the hand-held tools rather than the big spades etc. But we’ll have Sneeboer trowels and forks, as well as weeding trowels and tools.
• Hori-Hori’s (from Barebones, Niwaki and Japan)– because regardless of your garden size, they always come in use!
• Haws water cans (again the smaller ones)
• Workwear for gardening – we’ll have some Carhartt aprons 
• We'll also bring along some of our unique skatewood tools – including our Skatewood Axe and Hori Hori’s. More Skatewood trowels are on their way – but we don’t yet have them in hand unfortunately.
• And because we aren’t just for gardeners, we’ll also be bringing with us a selection of useful tools and kit including our Frank Toolroll,  Elementary screwdrivers, and Toyo toolboxes.

We’re really looking forward to going as we’ve enjoyed visiting other RHS shows and have looked at taking Tinker and Fix to other RHS shows but, in all honestly, it’s commercially challenging (yes, read that as rather expensive and therefore a bit of risk).  But we’ve decided that we ‘risk it for a biscuit’ at least once a year (actual words taken from one of our strategy meetings – i.e. during a dog walk when we mainly make decisions).
