This is my second axe project - well technically its a hatchet as its designed to be held with one hand. I bought this one for personal use but another one has caught my eye and I decided to give it the Tinker and Fix treatment and sell it on.
It's hand forged by a blacksmith in Slovenia - that takes his inspiration from a more Scandinavian style of axe head. The head shape really caught my eye.
I've made the sheath from high quality vegetable tan leather that has then been stained to a saddle tan. It's constructed using copper rivets and a brass Sam Brown fastening. I use the entire hind regardless of any marks or brands that it might have. This gives the sheath a unique finish and patena.
I believe the handle to be Hickory, although I'm not 100% sure. Regardless its a high quality wood with a tight grain. Overall length is 38 cm. The handle has a hefty area just below the head which makes a comfortable grip area if you wished to use it for more precision carving.
The blade is high carbon steel and weighs 860 grams. Being hand forged the head has a rustic, marked finish which I really like.
The handle has been hand painted with a deep blue (with a slight touch of purple) and an orange band.
Supplied with a leather lanyard incase you wish to hang the hatchet for storage.
